Abortion threatened is a condition which occurs before the 20^th week of pregnancy. The condition depicts the possible chances of potential miscarriage. If during the 20^th week of gestation, women experience vaginal bleeding, then chances of abortion becomes strong. An important fact is that it is not necessary that if women experience vaginal bleeding, then she is likely to face abortion. It has been observed that in 30% of cases despite experiencing vaginal bleeding, no abortion occurs. Some of the alternative names of the condition are threatened spontaneous abortion and threatened miscarriage.

Threatened abortion occurs due to a variety of reasons. The most important cause of the condition is placental abnormalities like placenta previa. Other possible causes of the threatened abortion are infection like Syphilis, genital herpes, etc, sexual intercourse during pregnancy, uterine fibroids, etc. Women with history of diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, etc are more prone towards the condition.

Taking adequate care is the best way for preventing the condition. Try to treat the health disorders like diabetes, etc before contraception in order to avoid further complications during pregnancy period.
