Overview

Cervicitis is an infection of the lower genital tract. It is a common infection and is the inflammation of the cervix. Inflammation is commonly seen in patients infected with sexually transmitted diseases. The complication of this disease may lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility and ectopic pregnancy. The alternative names to Cervicitis are cervical inflammation and cervix inflammation.

The Cervicitis is caused by the infection of the sexually transmitted disease (STD). The Cervicitis is also caused by injury to the cervix. Sometimes the birth control devices also become the important cause of Cervicitis. Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and herpes simplex virus cause this disease.

  • The patient may complain of abnormal vaginal bleeding.
  • There may be abnormal bleeding after intercourse.
  • The patient may also bleed after menopause.
  • The patient may bleed between periods.
  • There may be unusual vaginal discharge that does not go away.
  • There may be white or yellow or gray colour vaginal discharge.
  • This discharge may have an odor.
  • There may be sexual intercourse.
  • There may be pain in the vagina and pressure or heaviness in the pelvis.

Prevention
